peppermint-kiss:
Holy fuck, it just keeps going, doesn’t it?
It’s simultaneously inspiring and depressing.  Like when your perspective is that humans are everything and we fill up the realm of existence, it’s depressing because there’s nothing else to wonder about or get excited about.  So realizing how big the universe is can feel freeing.  But when you look at those massive, massive stars and think what little tiny nothing nothing we are in comparison to them - I mean, if that biggest star were a human, it wouldn’t be able to even see me on an electron microscope, would it?  So then I feel completely…irrelevant…to the universe…
*existential ennui*

First of all, this image NEVER gets old for me.
Second, in response to the post above…. depressing? Nothing to wonder over or be excited about? How can one not wonder at this!! How can one see this, and not realize how MAGNIFICENT the universe (or multiverse) is! How, yes, truly insignificant we are within it! Not be excited by it!? It is very humbling, and I know everyone feels differently and that’s ok, but for me it is the most wondrous feeling, the contemplation of how VAST things greater than us are, and not only that, but how vast the smaller world is as well. It never ceases to blow my mind away. It reminds me that there really is no God. It reminds me that there are endless realms of beauty to contemplate. It reminds me to not get so worked up about things in life. It reminds me to cherish my time where I am right now, because it surely will not last this way for long. We may be small, but we are here, and here is beautiful… I feel lucky being able to witness it all.
